Five for Friday – finals and North Korea

July 5, 2014

It’s actually Saturday here in Korea but still Friday in the states, so I think I’m OK.

Let’s get started on the Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs.

This little munchkin has been such a bundle of joy in my life the past week. I just love her! I get to have her for 4 more weeks before she stays with a friend while I’m in Bali. Then her mom, my friend, will come to Daejeon to pick her up.

I can’t wait to go home to my own dogs! I’m going to have a friend video our reunion….just like those adorable videos on YouTube.

This past week was final exams. I get to read the English test to my 2 favorite girls, Mina and Seora, who are in high school. Both are very low, and one barely knows what is going on. This is how she takes her test.

I read the question, she chooses which number is the answer (there are 5 possible answers with 5 stamps), I help her ink up and then guide her hand to the right spot on her test.

I am officially counting down now. Even though last week was final exams, I still have 1 1/2 more weeks of school. Yeah. It doesn’t make sense to me either. Then I have 2 weeks of summer camp. Then BALI. Then 5 more days in Korea, including 3 days of teaching. Then I fly home!!!!!

I think I mentioned that my co-teacher has FINALLY started to see that I actually do know what I’m talking about. She has created this LONG list of things for me to create before I leave, so she can use them next year. She has liked my creations so much that she keeps adding to the list.
Every. Single. Day.
She wanted maps for the students to practice directions (turn left at the store, etc). I found some on the internet and printed them out. She wanted them bigger. The only way to make them bigger is to make them myself.
So that’s what I did. I made two of these.

She would be more than happy if I was creating stuff for her 24/7.
Now why did it take her 10 months to realize this? I could have been doing this all along. Like back in February, when I had to desk warm for 2 weeks and literally had nothing to do at school all day except watch Netflix and work on my TpT stuff. Go figure, right?

I watched a National Geographic documentary on North Korea with Lisa Ling and am speechless that a place so close to South Korea is vastly different. They have been completely brainwashed. Children are dying from malnutrition, adults are blind from horrible healthcare, and prison camps are in full bloom which are very similar to concentration camps (children fighting over one corn kernel found in cow dung), and yet they still bow down and worship their “dear leader”. So sad. They just don’t know how the rest of the world lives. I was amazed and shocked.

Worshipping the “dear leader”. Makes me sick to my stomach.

If you have the time, please watch it. It will open your eyes.

Hope your week was fantabulous!

Really? I have a few days on my own after the tour I signed up for, and I wasn't sure where to go. So you would recommend Ubud? I love little shops and restaurants. That sounds right up my alley. 🙂

I can't wait to see your pictures from Bali. You are going to have SO MUCH FUN! I'm going to be super jealous. I also can't wait to see your homecoming video of you with your doggies. I'll probably cry!
