Five for Friday – BIG news to share!

March 7, 2014

It’s time to link up with Doodle Bugs for the weekly Five for Friday!

Let’s get started!

This week was the first week back at school. In Korea, their school year is opposite, starting in March.
There was no class schedule. Literally. NO schedule. You would think that they would spend the time BEFORE school started to get everything ready. Right? At least that’s what happens in the states. In Korea, the first couple of weeks are spent getting schedules ready. It makes no sense to me. At all. So I spent another week desk warming, with the exception of talking to my students for 5-10 minutes in each class. We have quite a few new students at our school, so I was excited to meet them.

The weather got a little warmer in Daejeon, and then it got cold again. Darn! I was SO ready for spring! Here is my little neck of the woods on the other side of the globe.

School started back this week which means school lunches started back. I had decided to start making a PB&J sandwich every day for lunch…just in case. Boy, am I glad I did because lunch was nasty 4 out of 5 days this week! I’m going to start doing this every day!

Fashion in Korea is rather interesting. Check out the dress I found yesterday! What do you think? Should I get it? All I know that if I wore this, I would feel like growling and snarling. Roar!

And now for my BIG news!

It is BIG. Boy, is it big.

I announced it to the world (aka Facebook) this week that my life will be changing dramatically when I come home in August.

God has called me to become a foster mom. There is absolutely no denying it. So when I come home in August, I will start the training classes and will hopefully have a child or children in my house within a couple of months of coming home.

I am nervous, scared, and excited all at the same time.

Becoming a single foster parent will be challenging, but I know I’m up to the challenge. I have been a foster parent for dogs for a while now, and I truly feel like God has been preparing me for this for a long time. I would appreciate your prayers!

Mind-boggling, isn’t it?

Wow – you are leading a very adventurous life! I love your blog title and design, and I'm very excited for you to become a foster parent. There are so many kids who need a loving home. It's good that you found peanut butter in Korea – such a great all American lunch!

I love EVERYTHING about you Five for Friday this week. I have SO MANY questions!! First of all, since they are starting school in March but you leave in August, will the school year be over? That is crazy that the students have no schedules yet….does that mean you may lose some of the students you had this week?

That PB & J looks awesome…did you make your own blueberry jelly? It makes me want a PBJ sandwich today. However I am being lazy. But it may be added to the grocery list!

That dress calls for a HUGE personality. And I abso-frickin-lutely LOVE the necklace. You should get it so I can manage a way to borrow (keep) it.

AMEN! to your call to become a foster parent. I would like to do it as well once I purchase a home in the near future. I commend you for becoming a single foster parent. I am super nervous to do that, but I will if thats what God wants.

Please share your journey on your blog…it WILL motivate others!!!!

Emerald, you are so cute! Thank you so much! Let me see if I can answer your questions.

I will leave in August, in the middle of their school year. EPIK, the program I am teaching with, allows you to start in 2 main months, August or March. I will complete one full year of teaching, mid year to mid year. Weird, but it works. And I actually just got my schedule about an hour ago although it still has to be edited since they gave me too many hours. I basically have the same students I had last year, just in the next grade.

About my PB&J…the jelly is amazing. And no, I didn't make it. It is grape jelly that I bought at my Home Plus (the Korean version of Walmart) in my neighborhood. My first jar of grape jelly didn't have near as many full grapes as this one, but both have been very tasty.

OK. If I see the dress again, I may just have to purchase it. It certainly would make me feel a little wild! And I'll totally let you borrow it!

You should totally look into becoming a foster parent too! Yes, I am nervous too. There is a lot of paperwork and things I have to do beforehand. But I KNOW that I am supposed to do it. And I am getting really excited about having kids in my house and making a difference in their lives.

I will share as much as I can about my fostering journey on my blog. It would be AWESOME if my experience would motivate others to do the same!
