Five for Fraturday – Woo-hoo!

September 27, 2014

So I know it should be Five for Friday, but I was worn out yesterday. Pooped.

So it’s now going to be Five for Fraturday.

Go link up with Doodle Bugs and join the party!

Last Sunday morning, I persuaded some friends to wake up BEFORE the crack of dawn and head out to the Plano Balloon Festival. The balloons were being launched at 7:00am, so we left at 5:00am. Wow, is that early. When we got there, the sun wasn’t up yet and dew was on the grass.

It was SO worth it.

It was just amazing.

We already have plans to go again next year!

If you’re following my blog, then you know that I GOT A JOB!!!! And it’s the job that I wanted!!

I’ll be teaching 3rd grade self-contained, and that means I need to set up my classroom. From scratch.

So off to Mardel to buy some new borders. WHY do they keep coming out with new cute borders every year? It just makes it that much harder to choose!

I was able to go up to my school yesterday (Friday) and see my classroom and meet my team. I wanted to make a good impression, especially since I was coming in after school started and after they had already established a good report with each other.

I wanted to bring them a little gift and found something like this on Pinterest and adapted it to make it my own. By the way, what in the world did we ever do without Pinterest? (Did you know that I’m on Pinterest? Look for “Southern Fried Teachin” and you’ll find ME!)

My team LOVED them! I have 4 other members on my team (and yes, I found out beforehand that they were all women). They loved them so much that other teams heard about my gift. Success!

Here is my new classroom! As you can see, it’s a little bare. I have no window (BOO), but the room itself is big, and there is tons of storage. In fact, I downsized so much in the past couple of years that I have many empty cabinets. Can you imagine? I’ve NEVER had that before! Oh, and I also have a sink. Woo-hoo!

And this was my absolute favorite part about my classroom…

Everyone made me feel so welcome. I LOVE my school!

My dog, Missy, aka “Stinker” got a new collar. Being just like her mama, she loves to have matching accessories.

Last but not least, here’s a funny for ya that I found at a little store. It cracked me up!

How has your week gone?

Also, if any of you are elementary teachers, I would LOVE to hear your tips, suggestions, must haves, etc! It’s been 4 years since I’ve taught all subjects in elementary, and I know there are some new great things out there. Any books you would recommend? Thanks bloggy friends!

That balloon festival looks AMAZING! Good call on waking up early to see it. Best of luck starting off the year in 3rd. I LOVE 3rd grade! When do you get students?

Thanks Kelli! I finally got students a week ago late Friday afternoon. It's been a little challenging trying to figure everything out, but I love my class.
